How Verkada licence renewals actually work
Co-terming, pro-rata, who is allowed to place the order, and why the price on a website is always indicative. None of this is complicated, but almost none of it is explained anywhere.
Five things that govern every Verkada renewal
Licences co-term
Every licence in a Command organisation shares one expiry date. You do not have twelve renewals on twelve dates — you have one, covering the estate. That is why this site asks you to choose a term once rather than per line.
Which makes mid-term additions pro-rata
Add a camera halfway through a term and its licence is aligned to the organisation’s existing date rather than running its own full length. It is the main reason a basket total is genuinely indicative rather than coy.
You cannot buy it yourself
Verkada’s documentation is explicit: renewals go through a Verkada sales representative or a Verkada reseller. There is no customer checkout at Verkada either.
Licences do not follow the hardware
Move a device between Command organisations and the licence does not go with it — the keys have to be moved separately. Relevant if you are splitting a trust or selling a site.
Renewals reprice at current list
Not at the list you originally bought at. If it has been three or five years since you last looked, the number will have moved.
The hardware is yours regardless
You bought the cameras. The licence is what keeps Command, the AI features, cloud retention and support alive on them.
What happens between your enquiry and your expiry date moving
Four steps. Only the last one involves money.
You send a schedule
Device counts and a term. We do not need your Command credentials to price it, and we will not ask for them.
We check it and price it
Part numbers against your estate, price through the distributor. This is the step that catches the wrong SKU before you have paid for it.
You get a written quotation
Confirmed price, exact part numbers, term. Within one working day. You are committed to nothing.
You approve, we place it
The licence keys are applied to your Command organisation, your expiry date moves, and you are invoiced on your terms.
Common questions
Why does a basket total say “indicative”?
Can we renew for a different term than last time?
What if some of our devices have been removed?
Who needs to approve it at our end?
